NWS member and volunteer Jim Ryan was hiking in Newport recently and…well…here is his story.
“I went for a hike today at Newport. I was on the Europe Bay trail, about half way up to Europe Bay Road from parking lot 3, and I ran into this group of Boy Scouts from Pulaski. They had been camping in the park. One of them was carrying this huge tire, so I asked them about it.”
“They found it washed up on the beach where they were camping, and took it upon themselves to help keep Newport Park clean. The group was taking turns carrying it out the several miles to where they were parked.”
“I told them I was a volunteer at the Park and thanked them very much for this kind and generous act, and offered to pick it up at parking lot 3 so that they didn’t have to carry it all the way to lot 1 where they were parked. I was very happy to see this group of younger people showing this degree of consideration for our park.”
It is stories like this that warm the heart. Kudos to the group of Pulaski Scouts for their care of our beautiful park. And thanks to Jim for letting us know of the story…and for giving them a hand with disposing of the tire.
