Not so promising around here.🌕 🌺 Don’t forget to look outside tonight, if you can, to catch a glimpse of May’s full moon, dubbed the Flower Moon.Curious about why it’s called a Flower Moon? According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, it has roots in several cultures, including Native American, European, and Colonial American.Basically, each Full Moon has its own name—traditionally something that applies to the lunar month when it occurs. For May, Flower Moon was chosen because it’s around this time of year that flowers start to bloom. When you look up at the sky, you’re not going to see a full moon dotted with flowers, but you are going to see a beautiful celestial moment that’s worth taking the time to admire.#fullmoon #flowermoon #mayfullmoon #wisconsin #upnorthnewswi ... A good message to pass along. It’s not really breaking news anymore that relaxing in nature makes us happier, but it is worth repeating. Nature relieves mild depression, reduces stress, and increases happiness for both adults and children. And, without the icy winds of January or the mosquito hordes of July, this is the perfect season to walk slowly through nature. Go find a puddle, a leaf, a breeze, and some birdsong, and you will also find an increase in well-being. To learn more, read or listen to this week's Natural Connections! Find links to both at www.cablemuseum.org/connect/. ... See MoreSee Less

A stunning new mural now graces the Visitors Center at Newport! Alison Whitney, gifted artist and NWS volunteer, transformed a corner of the center with a depiction of boreal forest, escarpment geology, and forest trail filtered through the morning sun.Remarkably, this is Alison’s first mural. She started on Valentines Day and finished on Earth Day, donating over 200 hours of her time to the project. NWS is so very grateful to Alison for this amazing gift to Newport and its thousands of visitors. ... See MoreSee Less

Over 700 trees were planted by almost 40 volunteers at the entrance to Newport SP this week! Part of the Door County Big Plant, it was a collaborative project with Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership, Climate Change Coalition of Door County, and volunteers from NWS and Gibraltar Ecology Club at Gibraltar HS providing most of the muscle power. Pizza donated by Wild Tomato Wood-Fired Pizza and Grille Fish Creek fueled the volunteers. Many thanks to everyone who helped with this vital project at the park! ... See MoreSee Less
