Big shout out to new master naturalists Helen Kenny and Maureen Treml Flatley for choosing Newport State Park for their capstone project. They designed and installed a songbird garden outside of the visitor center. Planting is finished and there’s more to come, including a bench and interpretive signs. Thank you to NWS volunteers that showed up to get down and dirty. We are grateful for all of your tireless efforts!! ... See MoreSee Less

Timeline photosA supermoon eclipse tomorrow! 😎Sunday night, a total lunar eclipse will grace the skies for about half the globe. This total eclipse is central, meaning that the moon will pass centrally through Earth’s dark (umbral) shadow. This eclipse also occurs during a supermoon, when the moon is closest to Earth in its orbit and slightly larger in our sky. So this is a very long eclipse! Totality will last nearly 90 minutes.
