Poetry Trail

The Poetry Trail is a ¾-mile walking trail that showcases the works of local writers and Wisconsin poets. Contributors have included school children, published poets, and the poet laureates of Door County and Wisconsin. It is a delightful opportunity to experience poetry within the beauty and serenity of nature.

Inspired by poetry trails that Phil and Marilyn Hansotia visited on travels to the east coast, the Newport poetry trail began in 2010 as a joint project of local poetry groups and the Newport Wilderness Society. Since 2016, Write On, Door County has curated and maintained the Poetry Trail. Available year-round, the poems and prose change quarterly.

The Poetry Trail can be accessed at the Visitors Center parking lot (Lot 1). The trail meanders partly through woods and partly along the edge of a meadow. It is considered an easy trail, but it is unpaved and you should expect to encounter tree roots, loose rocks, and patches of uneven surface.
