Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful night for our full moon hike tonight. We’ll meet at Lot 1 by the office, hike starts at 7:00.Tonight, October 17th, marks our third supermoon of the year, known as the Hunter’s Moon. A supermoon occurs when the moon's orbit brings it closest to Earth while it's in its full phase, making it appear larger and brighter in the sky. So who goes out after 10 pm to help park naturalist Beth Bartoli take Sky Quality Meter Readings? Micky and Gerry Swanson, the ultimate park groupies, that’s who! This is one of the many activities that goes on behind the scenes to maintain Newport’s international dark sky Park designation. These readings must be done at least twice a year in six different areas of the park and be reported to IDA.
