DDC State Parks Challenge Grant Initiative

Destination Door County/Door County Community Foundation
State Parks Grant Initiative
$50,000 Matching Grant

In late 2023, Destination Door County, in partnership with the Door County Community Foundation, launched the State Parks Grant Initiative to improve and enhance Newport, Peninsula, Potawatomi, Rock Island, and Whitefish Dunes State Parks.

This grant initiative is divided into three parts:

  1. Using room tax dollars generated by visitors to our community, Destination Door County has already committed the first $50,000 to each non-profit “friends group” of Door’s five State Parks. This initial funding will be utilized for modest upgrades and improvements to their facilities.
  2. The second $50,000 will come from generous friends like you. Each friends group has been asked to identify a larger project** that will truly enhance their respective State Park and has been challenged to raise a second $50,000 from friends like you.
  3. Once each friends group achieves this challenge goal, Destination Door County will match the community’s contributions and add the third $50,000, completing the cycle.

Donations received by NWS, whether by mail or through the NWS website, will be eligible for this matching challenge grant. Donations to the challenge grant in support of NWS may also be made directly on the Door County Community Foundation website.

This is a unique opportunity to double the impact of your gift to NWS and the work we do in support of Newport State Park.

Thank you so much for your generous support.

**The NWS Board of Directors has been working with park staff to develop a plan for utilizing this generous funding. Our priorities include improving the Dark Sky viewing area/experience, and to improve visitor access to Newport Beach.
