Meet Brian Grube, Newport’s New Park Manager

Greetings, my name is Brian Grube, and I am the new Park Manager for Newport and Rock Island State Parks. I am honored to be a new member of the team and I am looking forward to working with Newport Wilderness Society.

I moved here from Flagstaff, Arizona where I worked for the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County in the Parks and Recreation Departments as a Superintendent and Assistant Director respectively. I have been very involved with trail development and management of open space in the greater Flagstaff area for the past 15 years. I am excited to manage two of Wisconsin’s truly unique and wonderful parks. Preservation, management and use of wilderness/open space and public lands is something I truly enjoy.

My wife and I moved out west from Wisconsin back in 1998 and now have come full circle as I settle into my new home at Newport Park. We have family in Sturgeon Bay and Manitowish Waters. We have two kids who we raised in Flagstaff. My daughter attends school at Montana State University and my son resides in Flagstaff contemplating his next move. My wife Christine is a RN at a surgery center in Flagstaff.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time outdoors. I am an avid mountain biker and sea kayaker and enjoy many winter sports. The photo above was taken at my parents’ house on Papoose Lake in Vilas County.
