Carol Ash and her family have a deep connection to Newport State Park. As a child, she lived within biking distance of the park and remembers many family outings for picnics, swimming, baseball games, or just simply exploring. She carried on these traditions when she had children of her own.
Fast forward two or three chapters: she is now the owner of Kick Ash Products…and its wildly popular coffee house and retail shop in Ellison Bay. In 2020, she and her husband Chris created Dark Sky Roast coffee in celebration of Newport SP and its efforts to protect our northern Door dark skies. For every bag of Dark Sky Roast sold, Carol donates $5 to Newport Wilderness Society.
It doesn’t end there. When the Covid-19 pandemic forced the closing of the park office at Newport, Carol offered space in the store for NWS to continue selling merchandise. (Many of you signed up at Kick Ash to receive this newsletter.) Carol also serves on the NWS board, and provides coffee and baked goods for several popular events in the park.
How YOU can help Kick Ash with their support of Newport Wilderness Society: You likely know someone who loves great coffee. Dark Sky Roast is the perfect holiday gift. Stop in at the shop. Or buy online. Newport-branded merchandise is also available at Kick Ash; 100% of the proceeds are returned to NWS.
Kick Ash is conveniently located in Ellison Bay on Hwy 42 on the way to Newport State Park. (12001 Mink River Road…to be exact.) 920-854-9400 to check their off-season hours.
